In Attendance: Ricardo Maestas, Quint Thurman, David Gibson, Mary Beth Marks, Paul Sorrels via ITV, Yvonne Realivasquez – recording.


I.                   Announcements and Development

A.    Homecoming game was held last Saturday, Lobos lost 34-30. 

B.     The new scoreboard donated from WTNB looks great!

C.     Board of Regents Meeting will be held on November 7 & 8 in Beaumont.  David Gibson will attend to be introduced.

D.    Marks announced that the new Assistant Director of Admissions is Shannon Stockbridge and she started this past Monday.  Sully Showcase will be held on November 16, 2013.

E.     Marks announced that an alumnus Clete Buckaloo is moving into a leadership role in the Department of Public Safety.

F.      20th day stats at Alpine was 1909. Based on the drops, Maestas asked for additional information from admissions to determine the likelihood of returning students.  EC discussed the need to address hold thresholds and drops.

G.    Sorrels remarked that he would like to include RGC students and alumni in future homecoming events at Alpine.


II.                Approval of Minutes

A.    10-8-2013 EC approved.


III.             Old/Unfinished Business

A.    Policy Development APM 2.00 – Tabled pending revision.

B.     Policy for Compensation in Excess of Base Salary – Legal and EC approved this policy.

C.     Signature Authority Policy – tabled pending review by legal.

D.    Security Tests – Legal approved. Gibson will proceed OIT has requested approval to have their security employee perform a penetration test to determine if we have weak points. This will be done to create a more secure system.

E.     SWTJC transfer agreement – Sorrels announced that we have done this in the past and we need to renew the agreement. Joint degree plans in light of the new Core curriculum and other classes will be considered for electives.  The caveat is that we cannot accept all courses; they must be all courses that lead toward a degree.  These courses will be counted toward the BAS degree. The purpose is that technical blocks of credit of these vo-tech courses would be counted toward the BAS degree, if you received an associate degree. Sorrels questioned whether the agreement should include RGC and Alpine. Maestas would like to have Groves review this idea. Sorrels will make a few changes and will send to Legal. EC approved the language.

B.      Provost’s Report

1.      Chinese student contacts have been coming in this week.  Two students from China have approached Thurman to find out what the next steps are to come over. Thurman and Marks are planning to meet to discuss additional items of interest. Maestas expressed concern for potential standardized tests, language barriers, and the need for ESL programs.

2.      Mentoring program has over 35 volunteers and Thurman would like to link at-risk students and mentors together.  Thurman suggested to have a kick-off event. Moreland can provide a list of 35 students that are at-risk. Maestas will ask Groves to furnish a training lesson for the mentors.

D.    Associate Provost’s Report

1.      Nothing to report

E.     CIO’s Report

1.      Met with Baja Cable to find out more information to provide wireless in residence halls and in the mall. Infrastructure and planning will need to be discussed. Gibson also mentioned that we might be interested in additional services.

V.                New Business

A.    Personnel Items

1.      Request to advertise for visiting math instructor.  EC approved to offer $21,500 for Spring semester and pay $1000 moving expenses.

2.      There are two open positions in LTAC, Chaszar will follow up with one job offer.  EC approved. The other position is pending some additional information.
